Prizes galore
for Pierrepont at the Surrey County Show

by Rod Kebble

Cows from Pierrepont Farm scooped nine prizes at the Surrey County Show held at Guildford over the Jubilee weekend, while Zoë Clear came joint first in the Junior Handlers Class.

Wotton Sultan’s Cassandra was the Reserve Jersey Champion and also won the first prize for Senior Cow in Milk, with the second prize going to Wotton Sambo’s Ice (the Super Cow Champion at last year’s South of England show).

Both cows came to Pierrepont from Wotton as calves, their sires being respectively Sultan and Sambo.

Discovery Excitation’s Syria won first prize for Heifer in Milk and Bluegrass Snow Joke won third prize for Cow in Milk.

(Quick explanation: a heifer is a Maiden Heifer until she has her first calf, when she becomes a Milk Heifer. When a heifer has her second calf she becomes a Cow.)

Pierrepont’s Jerseys also came first in the Group of Three Animals Class and in the Interbreed Group of Three Class, the latter competing against Holsteins and Ayreshires.

Pierrepont also picked up third prize in the Yearling Heifer Class with Arizona.

The Pierrepont team has now moved to Ardingly to compete in this year’s South of England show on the 7th, 8th and 9th of June and we wish them good luck.
