Further wins for Pierrepont

by Rod Kebble

Following its successes at the Surrey County Show, Pierrepont Farm added a further six first prizes, a Reserve Champion, a fourth and a fifth at the South of England Show.

Discovery Excitation’s Syria repeated her first prize in the Heifer in Milk class and also picked up the prize for Best Homebred Jersey. She also came 4th in the Heifer Championship (all breeds).

Bluegrass Snow Joke came first in the Young Cow class and was the Reserve Champion Jersey.

Wotton Sultan’s Cassandra was Champion Jersey and came first in the Mature Cow class.

Pierrepont’s entry came first in the Jersey Group of Three class.

Zoë Clear came 5th (out of 18 entrants) in the Junior Young Handler class — a very creditable performance considering she was one of the youngest competitors.

Wotton Sambo’s Ice was due to defend the Super Cow title she won last year but was taken ill with a suspected twisted stomach after the second round, when she was lying second by just one point. Ice was returned to Pierrepont Farm, where the twisted stomach was found to be a false alarm and happily she is making a full recovery.
