Late night Christmas food & drink shopping
Wednesday 28th November, 6-9pm at Chiphall Farmshop

by Rod Kebble

Our friends Jane and Paul Denley, who conceived of and run Woodlands Jersey Beef — the business that takes unwanted dairy bull calves and grows them on for their meat (it provides the burgers at our Open Days) — are having a late evening shopping event tomorrow, Wednesday 28th November, at their new, additional venture, Chiphall Farmshop.

The event begins at 6pm and lasts until 9pm. Usual shop hours are 10am-6pm, Thursday to Saturday inclusive.

They will be cooking some Christmas meals for you to try (including a Hyden Farm goose) and offering wines to taste, their drinks licence having now come through.

Other temptations include Bowman Ales and Woodland Jersey Beef sausage rolls and other nibbles to sample.

Instead of a turkey this year, how about a Rib of Beef? But hurry — ribs are selling fast and orders might have to close next week. Poultry, lamb and home-cured hams can be ordered from the shop, too.

Also available is a selection of stuffings, sausages and bacon, local free range eggs and smoked trout from the New Forest Smokery, with Fonthill Glebe sparkling wine to wash it all down.

The shop is situated just off the A32 between Wickham and Droxford (about one mile north of the former) and shares a car park with Meon Valley Garage. Further details on the shop’s website.

Incidentally, Jane Denley and Pierrepont’s Mike Clear attended a forum organised by Compassion in World Farming and the RSPCA last week, to discuss the way forward with unwanted dairy bull calves. We hope to have a report from Jane on this website soon.
