Fairs weather

Early morning at the Surrey Show, the gazebo is finally up and we are almost ready to roll.

Early morning at the Surrey Show and almost ready to roll.

A very wet Surrey Show at Guildford on the 26th May, the rain falling throughout the hours of daylight. The new CRT exhibition gazebo – erected for the first time – proved something of a challenge, and required much reference to the rain-sodden “instructions” and much good humour before it was up and capable of providing shelter for the CRT exhibition and refuge from the rain for the exhibitors.

Brighter news during the day however from the ring at the other end of the showground, that Mike and Bev had hauled in another batch of well-deserved trophies with the Jerseys.

Leaving the car park at the end of the show proved another challenge and not leaving became a distinct possibility as cars soon became stuck in the mud.

Late morning with heavy rain, muddy underfoot, people with umbrellas and and nothing compared to what it looked like at the end of the afternoon!

From the point of view of the weather the Floral Fringe Fair less than a week later could not have been more different, warm sunny and not one drop of rain over the two days, a repeat in fact of the conditions during last year’s fair.

Both shows attracted a number of interested and interesting people to the CRT display, keen to talk and to hear what the CRT was all about. Being in Sussex some of the discussion at the Floral Fringe concerned the heated, almost incandescent, subject of fracking, about which, thankfully, the CRT was unable to offer an opinion but in the case of badgers the lesson that it was always advisable to ascertain the other person’s point of view before venturing an opinion of your own was quickly relearned!

Five days later and nestled cosily in the sunshine between the other exhibitors, the CRT tent at the Floral Fringe Fair.
