Pierrepont Farm directions from the M25

The directions below have been written in good faith, using information available at the time (March 2011) and The Countryside Restoration Trust cannot accept responsibility for any delays or losses arising from their use. The directions are intended for visitors coming by car and the routes may be unsuitable for larger and/or heavier vehicles.

For satnav users, the postcode of Pierrepont Farm is GU10 3BP. (The postcode for the farm’s postal address is GU10 3BS but this shared with another property on the other side of the River Wey. If you put 3BS into your satnav, it will take you down a very narrow lane and deposit you on the wrong side of the river, where the only crossing is a narrow footbridge.)

Directions from the M25
Whether you are travelling clockwise or anti-clockwise, leave the M25 at Junction 10 and follow signs for the A3 in the direction of Guildford.

The route below involves leaving the M25 at junction 10 and going past Guildford. If the signs on the M25 warn of delays on the A3 towards Guildford, you might wish to leave the M25 at junction 12 and reach Pierrepont Farm via the M3. Directions for this route are here.

Go past Guildford and ignore turn-offs for (1) Compton, Charterhouse & Puttenham and (2) Hurtmore, Norney & Shackleford.

Ignore also the turn-off for Eashing but take the next exit, which comes up almost immediately, for Milford (signposted Milford, Petworth, Haslemere and Elstead).

Go up the hill to the roundabout and take the third exit, signposted Farnham and Elstead (B3001). Cross the bridge over the A3 to another roundabout and take the first exit, the B3001 (Elstead Road) signposted to Farnham and Elstead.

On the way to Elstead, the name of the road changes to Milford Road but it is still the B3001.

Carry on straight through Elstead, still on the B3001, past the Woolpack pub (where the name of the road changes again to Farnham Road) and the Golden Fleece and leave by the bridge built in circa 1300 (and hopefully since repaired) and carry on past the Old Mill at Elstead.

A bit further on is a left hand bend with a sign for another pub, The Donkey, which you leave on your left as you start to go up Charles Hill, still on the B3001.

At the top of the hill, the road flattens out for a bit and then descends again. Ignore the first turning to the left, Whitmead Lane (which meanders about), and take the second left, Green Lane, which follows a more direct route.

(This is not the same Green Lane on which the Trust’s other Surrey property, Green Farm, is located.)

Following wet weather, both ends of Green Lane — but particularly the B3001 end — are prone to flooding. Usually you can get through by taking the centre of the road, but if you are reluctant to try this, take the next left, Tilford Street, which might be drier. (Follow Tilford Street round to the left in the direction of Tilford and ignore Sheephatch Lane.)

If you take Green Lane, turn left at the far end, onto Tilford Street, and go past the end of Whitmead Lane (on the left) and Waverley Abbey Cof E School (on the right) towards Tilford.

After a few bends, Tilford Street brings you down a hill to the foot of a bridge wide enough for only one car. Once you have crossed it, go straight on, leaving the Barley Mow pub on your right and following the brown-and-white signs for the Rural Life Centre.

After the pub you need to turn right, across another narrow bridge and then left. Go to the end of this road and turn left into The Reeds Road.

Go up the hill and down the other side, passing the entrance to the Rural Life Centre on your right. The entrance to Pierrepont Farm is at the next building visible on your left.

(If you find yourself going past Frensham Garden Centre on your left, you’ve gone too far.)

The telephone number of Pierrepont Farm is 01252 793559.

Alternative routes

Both the routes below involve leaving the M25 at junction 10 and going past Guildford. If the signs on the M25 warn of delays on the A3 towards Guildford, you might wish to leave the M25 at junction 12 and reach Pierrepont Farm via the M3. Directions for this route are here. (This the same link given at the top of the route above.)

1) Instead of taking the A3 to Milford, turn off the A3 as you pass Guildford and take the A31 along the Hog’s Back. The junction with the A31 is at the top of the long hill on the A3 after the exit signposted “Hospitals, Onslow Village, Guildford Centre Research Park, Park Barn, University”.

Follow the A31 to the Hickley’s Corner junction, just south of Farnham.

The junction is controlled by traffic lights and you need to be in the left filter lane, following the signs to Farnham Station.

Make the left turn into Station Hill (B3001), go over the level crossing next to Farnham station and turn immediately right before The Waverley Arms pub, into Tilford Road (this is not the same Tilford Road that runs north from the junction of the A3 and A287, mentioned in some of our other directions to Pierrepont Farm).

The distance from the level crossing to the entrance to Pierrepont Farm is 3.4 miles (5.5 kilometres).

Stay on the Tilford Road, passing Bourne Grove on your right and then going through a crossroads with Monks Walk on your left and Lodge Hill Road on your right. A sign here tells you it is 1¾ miles (2.8 kilometres) to Tilford.

As you approach Tilford, a blue sign on your left warns of a weight limit ¾ of a mile (1.2 kilometres) ahead and then you pass Sheephatch Lane on your left. The trees either side of the road give way to hedges and a brown and white sign points right to the Rural Life Centre, though there is no junction at this point. A little further on, a sign indicates a right hand bend ahead, with a minor junction off it.

Follow the road round this bend and you are now in The Reeds Road.

Alternative route from Hickley’s Corner.
Make the left turn into Station Hill (B3001) and take the first right off Station Hill (just after The Mulberry hotel) into Approach Road, which passes in front of the station forecourt and continues past the station car park.

At the far end of Approach Road, turn left (south) onto the A287, which here is called Firgrove Hill. Immediately after the left turn you cross a bridge over the railway line.

Continue south along the A287 (which becomes Frensham Road) for about 2½ miles (4 kilometres). This brings you into Millbridge (though there is nothing to tell you this), where The Reeds Road comes into the A287 from the left. This is the turning for Pierrepont Farm.

In fact, there are two entrances to The Reeds Road. If you do not spot the first one — on the left, just before you pass The Village Workshop on the right — take the second, which is on the left just before The Bridge hotel on the right.

(If you come to a sign pointing to your left for Frensham Little Pond, you’ve gone too far.)

Follow The Reeds Road until you reach Frensham Garden Centre, on your right. The entrance to Pierrepont Farm is just past the garden centre, also on your right. The distance from the A287 end of Approach Road to the entrance to the farm is 3.2 miles (5.1 kilometres).

(If you find yourself going past the Rural Life Centre on your left, you’ve gone too far.)

2) Carry along the A3 past the Milford turn-off to Hindhead. At the traffic lights in Hindhead, turn right onto the A287 Tilford Road.

Please note Following the opening of the new Hindhead Tunnel, scheduled for July 2011, the existing A3 round the Devil’s Punchbowl to the east of Hindhead will close to traffic and become a bridle/cycle way. Drivers will have to go through the tunnel and then take the Hazel Grove Junction exit, which is situated just after the southern portal of the tunnel. Go up the slip road to the roundabout, turn right and cross over the A3, then at the second roundabout go right on the Portsmouth Road to Hindhead and pick up the A287 going north.

Proceed northwards on the A287 (Tilford Road) towards Farnham. (This not the same Tilford Road that features in the directions to Pierrepont Farm from Farnham.)

About 650 yards (600 metres) north of the A3 (just past the entrance to Highcombe Edge School) there is a junction where Tilford Road goes off to the right as a minor road and the A287 carries on northwards, renamed as Churt Road. Stay on the A287 in the direction of Churt.

(As you approach Churt, a narrow road off to the right, Green Lane — signposted to the community centre — is the turning for the other CRT property in Surrey, Green Farm.)

Go straight through Churt and continue northwards on the A287 (now Frensham Road), following signs for Frensham, The Bourne and Farnham, and passing Frensham Great Pond on your left.

A bit further on after you leave the pond behind, a pair of 30mph limit signs and a sign pointing to the right to Frensham Little Pond, indicate that you are entering Millbridge.

Carry on over the bridge and up the hill. On your left is The Bridge hotel. Opposite the hotel is the entrance to The Reeds Road, signposted for Frensham Garden Centre, the farm’s neighbour.

(If you overshoot this turning, there is another further up the hill on your right — also named The Reeds Road — just past the The Village Workshop, which is on your left.)

Turn right into The Reeds Road and follow it until you come to the Frensham Garden Centre, on your right. The entrance to the farm is just after that to the garden centre and is also on your right.

(If you find yourself going past the Rural Life Centre on your left, you’ve gone too far.)
